Needless to say, it’s a good thing for the other dogs that Bailey is ineligible for the contest. The winner is announced in Thursday’s issue of DFW Ink, but satiate your desire for more cute dog pics in their 100 or so photos of the finalists.

Let me explain. Bailey was bitten by another dog at the dog park on Monday night. Didn’t seem like much of anything at the time, but the bite took a turn for the worse and we took him to the vet to get stitched up. The staples are in his shoulder in a perfect spot to scratch, so the vet recommended we put a shirt on him so he can’t rip the staples out.

We can’t stop laughing. Bailey doesn’t think it’s very funny.

Sorry big guy.

Kari and I put down 100 pieces of sod (she insisted that she help, despite my objections) this weekend. We had been living with a huge dirt patch at the front of the backyard for quite a while, ever since Bailey tore it out long ago. The area is right where he turns around during our never-ending games of fetch, so we’re working on changing the pattern a little bit so he doesn’t damage the new sod before it gets a little better hold.

In an effort to save our sod, though, we’re leaving him inside for the forseeable future. That means, we have to keep the big guy worn out. If he was outside he’d be tearing out the sod. Inside, there’s the carpet. He’s equal opportunity. So, the goal is to keep him as tired as humanly (caninely?) possible. To that end, I took him to the rain-soaked dog park tonight, where he had a ball playing in the huge puddles. The video doesn’t quite do it justice, but post-rainy day dog park trips are definitely our new favorite.

Simon, that furry little white guy above, has been staying us with us since Friday, when our friends headed down to Mexico to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. We were a little worried the dogs wouldn’t get along (Bailey outweighs Simon by about 70 lbs) but our little freight train has successfully toned down the wrestlemania. Simon can hold his own though, and his speed and agility have served him well.
Not too much to report, just wanted to share the photo of the quizzical dudes (above) and the video of them playing (below).

We couldn’t keep him out of the water. But watch out, he’s like a little shark when he comes after you with his sharp puppy teeth. Finally, though, it seems like the little daggers may be starting to fall out.

We leave town for five days and Bailey is twice as big as he was when we left. How is that possible? The change is startling. What was that kennel feeding him? We’re heading to the vet on Saturday, so we’ll get his official weight. <strike>I’m guessing at least 40 pounds, which is sixteen more than he was last time, less than a month ago.</strike> And his paws are massive. He’s going to be a big dog…

Update: So I’m not a good judge of weight. Bailey weighed 28 pounds, not 40 as I guessed. But he seems a whole lot bigger. And more mature. The biting has dropped off dramatically, and he plays great with other dogs.
