Two weeks ago Maya was born! Kind of hard to believe! We went to the doctor this morning for her checkup and they said everything looks great. And she has gained a lot of weight already, which is comforting to me. It feels like she eats constantly, but I’m still happy to know that she’s getting all the food that she needs. She weighs 9 pounds, 2 ounces, so she had regained her birth weight (8 pounds, 14 ounces) and then some.
Jason and I are both hanging in there. Maya is a great napper during they day, and can be at night. But more often than not she has a streak of about 4 hours each night where she wants to eat almost every hour. So that’s been a little tough! But hopefully it’ll get better soon. By the end of the night she almost always gives us two longer streaks of sleep though, so we manage to start the day decently rested. The doctor said she wants us to start putting her in her crib during the day before she falls asleep for a nap so she can start to learn to soothe herself and fall asleep on her own, so we’re going to give it a shot once a day at least.
She usually takes at least one solid nap in her crib each day, so we get a little cuddle break. (But it is tempting not to put her down while she sleeps. She’s just so precious and we could stare for hours!)
But all and all we’re loving our days at home as a family. We don’t leave the couch too often but think that’s a great way to spend the first weeks of Maya’s life. One day we’ll get back to getting out and about a little more often!
