20 weeks pregnant, and she’s getting bigger

Yep, she’s getting bigger, but I’m not talking about Kari (what kind of husband would say that, even about his beautiful pregnant wife.)

I’m talking about our baby girl! She’s growing fast, weighing in at 13 ounces. Kari’s sonogram was last week, and after a couple of days with the answer tucked safely inside a sealed envelope, we made it out to dinner on Friday night to open it and find out the good news. The sonogram was amazing, watching the baby’s heartbeat, seeing her little arms and hands up by her face, watching her squirm all around.

We’re getting more excited by the day, and knowing makes it seem all that much more real to us. We can’t wait for all the amazing experiences that await us and our baby girl.

Now that we know, it’s on to the real work. Kari made a weekend trip to Minnesota and found some bedding she liked for the crib (only a little bit of pink, so the baby agreed to it). My dad is headed over this weekend to help us get a start on painting the nursery and to put the baby’s new furniture together. And oh yeah, we also need to agree on a name. Not an easy task, but we’re starting to find some common ground. Eliminating half the names now that we know she’s a she has helped with that process quite a bit. Suggestions are welcome, but don’t count on hearing the final result until the little one’s here.

If you haven’t seen it already, be sure to keep up with Kari’s blog on Mom2MomDFW.com. She’ll be keeping you updated their every week.

Congratulations Jason & Kari! Chantell & I are having another and I think are only a few weeks behind you. Jason, you and I may have to have our own support group if we also have a daughter.

    Kari and Jason,

Thirty six years of baptizing babies have made me eminently qualified to suggest names that you shouldn’t consider; but they’ve also left me wise enough to know that I should keep those opinions to myself. It would just be my luck that a name high on my list would be one of the “top two contenders” for your daughter’s name or that you’ve become best friends with someone I baptized with one of those names. Besides…I’m sure you’ll do fine without any additional input from me.

I sure am happy for the two of you; and even happier for your daughter. She lucked out in getting the parents she’s gotten. Congratulations to all three of you, and WELCOME, MS. CRANE!

    God bless us all,
    Fr. Bill

Cranes, that is super news! Little girls are the best! Picking a name was our biggest challenge, and I’m sure you’ll have lot of opinions. I know you’ll be super parents and she’ll be mountain biking and hiking Peruvian trails before you know it. One word of advice, start buying the Disney movies now. It’s always a bummer when they’re in the vault and your kid wants “Beauty & the Beast.”
